That astrology thing, it’s like, you know, the stars and all that stuff up there. I heard folks talking ’bout it, saying it can tell you things. Like, what kind of person you are, what’s gonna happen to ya. Sounds kinda crazy, don’t it?
But you know what, my granddaughter, she’s all into this magic of astrology. She got this book, all shiny and colorful. Pictures of stars and planets, all that fancy stuff. She says it’s an old, old thing, been around for ages. Folks used to look at the stars to figure things out, like when to plant the crops or who to marry. It’s like history, you see, like a very old story.
This book, it talks about these “zodiac signs.” Sounds like a zoo, right? But it ain’t. It’s like, what stars were up there when you were born. Like, if you were born in, say, summer, you got a different sign than someone born in the winter. These signs have names, like Leo, or, uh, one of them is “fish” or some other one is like “crab.”
- Aries, that’s like a ram.
- Taurus, that’s a bull. Stubborn, they say.
- Gemini, that’s twins.
- Cancer, that’s the crab.
- Leo, that’s a lion. Proud, they say.
- Virgo, that’s some lady, I think.
- Libra, that’s like scales, for balance.
- Scorpio, that’s a scorpion. Watch out!
- Sagittarius, that’s some guy with a bow and arrow.
- Capricorn, that’s a goat.
- Aquarius, that’s someone pouring water.
- Pisces, that’s the fish.
And these signs, they say what kind of person you are. Like, if you’re a Leo, you’re all brave and like to be the boss. I think that’s a load of hooey, but my granddaughter, she swears by it. It’s part of the magic of astrology, I guess. I don’t understand it, but she does.
Then there’s these “elements” they talk about. Like fire, earth, air, and water. It is part of the basic of magic of astrology. Just like we got those things here, the stars have ’em too, I guess. And they say the signs are connected to these elements. Like, some signs are fire signs, and they’re all fiery and passionate. And some are water signs, and they’re all emotional, like a leaky faucet. Earth signs, they are stable, like the ground. And air signs, they talk a lot, like wind. Well, that’s what the book says.
And planets! Don’t even get me started on the planets. They got names like Mars and Venus. Just like those things you see at night, shining up there. And they say these planets, they move around and that affects things down here. It’s all connected, this magic of astrology. They say that if you don’t know anything about it, you can still learn it. It is not that hard, just like those houses, signs, and planets. Like, if Mars is in a certain place, you might get into a fight. Or if Venus is somewhere, you might fall in love. It’s all very confusing.
They also talk about these “houses.” Not like the house you live in. These are like, parts of the sky, I think. And each house means something different. Like, one house is about money, and another is about family. It’s like a big map of your life, all up there in the sky. And where the planets are in these houses, that tells you something too.
And these planets, they’re all friends and enemies, like people. Like, some planets get along, and some don’t. And that makes a difference in how they affect you. It’s like a big soap opera up there in the sky. Planets are friends, or they are not. Planets have their own personalities, just like people. And they rule different signs, these planets. Like, one planet rules one sign, and another planet rules another. It’s a lot to keep track of.
Now, I don’t know if I believe all this. But it’s interesting, I’ll give it that. And my granddaughter, she seems to think it’s real. She’s always looking at her “chart,” that’s what she calls it. It’s like a picture of the sky when she was born. It is the magic of astrology, you know. And she says it tells her all sorts of things about herself.
Maybe there’s something to it. I mean, people have been looking at the stars for a long, long time. Maybe they saw something up there that we don’t see anymore. Maybe this magic of astrology is real. Or maybe it’s just a bunch of stories. But it’s something to think about, ain’t it? Looking up at the sky and wondering what it all means.
I still think it’s a little silly. But hey, if it makes my granddaughter happy, that’s all that matters. She keeps talking about her rising sign and her moon sign. I just nod and smile. It’s all part of that magic of astrology, I suppose. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll understand it too. Maybe one day I’ll look up at the stars and see more than just pretty lights. Maybe I’ll see the magic too.
