Today, I wanted to mess around with the Chinese Taurus symbol. You know, I’ve always been fascinated by astrology, but I’ve never really dug into the Chinese side of things.
So, first, I gotta find out what exactly this symbol is. I hopped on Google and started searching. Turns out, in Chinese, it’s called 金牛座 (jīn niú zuò). That literally translates to “golden bull constellation.”
Then, I did some more digging. According to some sources, in traditional Chinese uranography, Taurus is located in the western quadrant of the sky. The symbol of the western quadrant is the White Tiger of the West (西方白虎 – Xī Fāng Bái Hǔ).
I also tried to learn what the Chinese Taurus means in astrology. But most of the resources were about the Western zodiac sign. One thing I did find was that people born under the Taurus sign are supposedly born between April 20th and May 20th. There’s a bunch more info about what personality traits they have, but I didn’t get too deep into that today. I just wanted to focus on the symbol and what it means in the Chinese context.
Here’s what I did to actually draw the symbol:
- Looked up reference images: I googled “金牛座 symbol” to see what it looks like.
- Grabbed my notebook and pen: I’m old school, I like sketching things out by hand.
- Started sketching: I tried my best to copy the symbol I saw in the images. It’s basically a circle with two horns coming out of the top, like a bull’s head.
- Tried to write the Chinese characters: This was tough! I’m not great at Chinese calligraphy, but I gave it a shot. I wrote 金, then 牛, then 座.
It wasn’t perfect, but I had fun doing it. It’s cool to learn something new and try to connect with a different culture’s way of seeing the stars.
After all of this, I learned that in modern China, they call Taurus the “golden bull constellation” (金牛座). So, it seems like the ancient traditions and the modern way of talking about this constellation have some differences. The White Tiger connection is super interesting, though. I might look into that more later.
That’s all for my little adventure with the Chinese Taurus symbol today. Maybe next time, I’ll delve into the personality stuff or explore other zodiac signs. Who knows!
